YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE ALONE

First Night in Orlando

Brianne checked herself out in the full-length mirror on the hotel bathroom door. This was not her. She wore a short buttery leather skirt of dark brown. She never was one for showing leg since she was only five-two – even she had to admit her legs weren’t half bad. The scarlet tank top she had chosen was not too revealing and the color set of her dark coloring. The strappy sandals she wore simply because the brevity of the skirt didn’t allow for hose. Briefly she wondered if uncaring feet at the club would crush her toes.

She was actually going to a dance club. She scarcely believed herself! But a dare was a dare and Brianne was no clucking chicken. She’d do it. No matter how little she actually wanted to do it, she would.

Taking a deep breath, she grabbed her little handbag. She had to leave now before she lost her nerve. Better to do it on her first night in Orlando and get it over with.

“Mr. Fatone?”

Joey turned around when a gentle hand touched his shoulder. He found a lovely young woman in a leather skirt and a snug tank top. He gave her a wolfish grin. “My father’s Mr. Fatone. My name's Joey.”

She extended her hand. “I’m Brianne Collins.”

The name sounded familiar but the face wasn’t. And what girl wanted to shake hands at a dance club?

“The school teacher you are supposed to meet tomorrow with Janie Webster.”

Taking her hand, he looked her up and down. “They didn’t make school teachers that looked like that when I was in school.”

Brianne laughed. “They probably did. You just never saw them away from school.”

“How does a sweet school teacher from the Midwest end up clubbin’ in Orlando?”

“I’m on vacation – and I promised a couple of friends I’d go to a club at least once while I was here.” She retrieved her hand. “I’ll leave you to your relaxation. I just thought it would be rude not to introduce myself.”

“You alone?”

“Why yes.”

“A sweet thing like you shouldn’t be in a place like this all alone.”

“I wasn’t planning to stay long.”

“You can join us.”

“Us?”

“JC and Chris are here, too.”

“No. I didn’t mean to impose—“

“A beautiful lady never imposes. Besides, if you want a club experience to tell your friends about, you need to stay awhile. Safety in numbers and all that.”

Joey towed her towards a table where two men sat. One man was dressed in all black sat slumped down, looking for all the world like he’d rather be elsewhere. The other smaller man seemed to be attempting to cheer the other one up.

“Chris, JC, does this look like a school teacher to you?” Joey demanded.

The man in black sat up straighter, his blue eyes coming alive.

“Not any I had,” the small man with a beard replied.

The other man said nothing and basically stared.

“Brianne, Chris and JC,” Joey made the introductions. “You’ll have to forgive JC. He just broke up with his girl for the millionth time.”

”The last time,” Josh murmured. He wasn’t putting himself through that particular hell anymore.

“Uh-huh.” Joey sounded unconvinced.

“Anyway, we have that private fan day tomorrow with Janie Webster and her school teacher cousin. Brianne here is the cousin.”

“I didn’t think teachers went clubbin’,” Chris remarked.

“Well, normally, I don’t—“

“You did it on a bet, didn’t you?” Josh asked.

Brianne laughed. “How did you know?”

He shrugged. “Seems like something you might do on a dare.”

Josh always the gentleman asked, “Can we get you a drink?”

Brianne shook her head. “I don’t drink.”

”A cola or something?”

“Yes, thank you.”

Josh rose, holding a chair for Brianne until she was seated, then he went to fetch her drink.

“If you’re too nice to him, you’ll wear him like an eager puppy dog,” Joey warned as he seated himself.

“I don’t mind. It hasn’t been that long ago I was in his shoes.”

In no time, Josh had returned, placing a glass in front of Brianne.

“Thank you,” she said as he resumed his seat to her left.

Josh crossed his arms on top of the table and leaned forward, closer to Brianne. “What grade do you teach?”

“I teach teenagers mostly. High school. I work with a program that tries to keep at risk kids in school and get GED’s for those who have dropped out.”

“Not suburbia.”

“No, these are inner city kids.”

It was obvious to the other two that Josh intended to monopolize the pretty teacher. He didn’t usually come on so strong – especially after a break-up.

“Think I’ll go find a dance partner,” Joey grunted as he rose.

“I think I will, too,” Chris added.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean—” Brianne started.

“Keep JC company,” Joey said as he and Chris walked away.

“At least, he’s not moping now,” Chris chuckled once they were out of earshot.

“Yeah, but poor Brianne.”

“She seems like a nice lady.”

“I’m sure you don’t want to hear my entire life story,” Brianne said after she answered a barrage of questions from the man beside her.

“I think I do.” And he did. He wanted to know everything about the sweet, doe-eyed woman. The club as loud and dark as it was, was not the perfect environment for getting acquainted. “Brianne, would you like to go somewhere more quiet?” he asked suddenly.

“Actually, I would. But I have to dance at least once dance. That was part of the dare.”

“I can’t believe you came here alone on a dare,” he chuckled. This was not the place for her.

“Yeah. Pretty stupid, huh?”

“I’m glad you found Joey.” He took her hand. “This is not the place for a girl alone who isn’t looking to get hooked up – especially not dressed like that.”

“But I though this was pretty tame by club standards.”

“It is, baby girl, but it looks like an invitation just the same.” Even in the dim light of the club he saw her cheeks pinken.

A slow song began and Josh rose. “That’s our cue to dance, I think. C’mon, Brianne.”

They made their way to the dance floor. Josh guided her arms around his neck, then put his arms around her waist to draw her closer. They swayed together to the music.

“Actually, I’m a good dancer,” she told him.

“More grinding gets done than actual dancing.”

“Oh.”

“That’s why this is not the place for a sweet, innocent like you, baby.”

“Why are you trying to protect me?”

“Because you’re a nice lady. I’d hate to see something happen to you while you’re here.”

“I though chivalry was dead.”

“No, just dealt a knock-out blow sometimes. I was raised better.”

When the song ended, they weaved through the throng of bodies, her hand in his, until they located Joey.

“This isn’t the place for Brianne,” Josh told him over the throbbing music. “I’m taking her some place quiet.”

“But I never got to dance with her,” Joey protested.

Josh shook his head. “We’re going.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow!” Brianne called as her escort pulled her along toward the door.

Inside the club, it had been over-heated with the crush of bodies. Outside, it was cooler. Brianne rubbed her arms to chase away the chill. Josh wrapped his arm tightly around her, sharing his body heat. Once they got to his jeep, he reached back to produce a well-worn leather jacket and placed it over her shoulders.

“Better?”

“Much. Thank you.”

“Where would you like to go? Are you hungry?”

“Not particularly.”

“The beach?”

“I’m a little under-dressed for that.” She touched his hand. “The hotel where I am staying has a nice, little piano bar.”

He gave her a warm smile. For a minute there, he thought she was going to try and ditch him. “Sounds good to me, Brianne.”

“Friends call me Bree.”

“Bree, it is. They call me Josh.” For some reason he couldn’t name, he didn’t want to be JC to Brianne. He wanted to be Josh. Maybe it was because the rest of the world called him by his initials and he wanted a name from her.

“You want me to call you Josh?”

“Please.”

She smiled and gave him the name of her hotel.

They talked and shared stories as people came and went.

“Oh, my gosh! Look at the time!” Brianne exclaimed when she glanced down at her watch. They had totally lost track of time – and now it was three in the morning!

“Do you have some place to be early?” Josh asked.

“Well, no. Not until tomorrow afternoon when Janie and I go to WEG.”

Josh rose and dropped a handful of bills on the table. “I’ll take you to your room.”

At her door, Brianne was waging war within herself. Never before had she been so tempted by a man. She wasn’t vastly experienced – in fact, the last man she had dated had been her only lover – and he had pronounced her frigid. Josh’s deep eyes said he didn’t want to be left at the door. It would be a disaster for certain! He was looking to her for some sexual healing – and she wasn’t the right one for the job! Someone had hurt him and he was looking for someone to make him feel good as a man again.

At first, Josh kissed Brianne softly. Then longer and more firmly. When she didn’t protest, he took it a step farther. He stroked his tongue along the seam of her lips, seeking entrance.

“Josh—“

“Please, Bree,” he whispered against her lips. “Let me in, baby. I need you so bad.”

When she complied, his tongue teased and danced with hers.

She arched up against him. “More,” she demanded huskily.

Josh complied hungrily. Bringing her to her toes, he took everything she gave.

“Sweet,” he murmured breathlessly as he buried his face in her neck. “Bree, you are so sweet and wonderful. Thank you.”

Brianne gently pulled away and opened her door. She met his eyes and raised an eyebrow in question. “I don’t want to leave you out here.”

The invitation was more than he could’ve ever hoped for. “Baby, if I come in there, it’ll be a long time before either of us gets any sleep,” he warned. “I’ll want to make love to you till dawn.”

Brianne stepped into the room, pushing the door wider, then looked back at Josh. “You coming in?”

“You sure, Bree?”

Instead of words, she let her actions speak. Taking his hand, she drew him in, closing the door behind him.

It was too good to be true. This beautiful lady was taking him in!

Brianne reached up to kiss him softly. “I’ll go take off my make up and get into something less challenging.”

“You sure about this, baby girl?” He had to ask again for his conscience sake.

“Don’t ask me again or I may lose my nerve.”

He pulled her up against him. “If it takes nerve then maybe I’d better go.”

“Don’t,” she whispered. “Stay.”

“I want to. In the worst way. I want to lay down with you, but it has to be right for both of us.”

“It is, Josh. It’s just I’ve never picked up a man before. I’m not into casual sex and—“

“Whoa, sweetheart, it isn’t going to be ‘causal sex’. I can promise you that.”

“You can?”

Josh brushed his lips tenderly against her forehead. “Whoever hurt you, baby…He was a fool.”

“How?...

“A beautiful brown-eyed girl who is so full of love and caring, and she’s afraid of love? Somebody had to do that to you.”

Brianne rested her head against his chest as he held her protectively and stroked her long hair.

“You are so sweet and gentle, Bree. If a man can’t see that and treasure it, he didn’t deserve you.”

“Josh, please, stay.”

“I guess, we both need healing.”

”I guess we do.”

He tipped her chin up, kissing her lingeringly. “You go get ready. I’ll turn down the bed.

Brianne removed her make up and brushed her teeth. She couldn’t believe she was actually going to bed with a man she had met only hours earlier. But something felt so right with Josh. She couldn’t have explained it if she had tried. Just that something.

She looked at her old satin robe, it’s emerald jeweled tone faded from years of washing. She didn’t have any enticing lingerie. Well, pragmatically speaking, she wasn’t going to remain dressed for very long anyway!

“Bree?” Josh called from the bedroom.

“I’ll be right out!”

She slipped out of her underwear and put the robe on. Josh wasn’t liable to notice the garment anyway.

“C’mere, baby girl,” he murmured huskily when she stepped into the bedroom. He held out his arms to her. Josh sat against the headboard, naked from the waist up. She was fairly certain, he was naked beneath the sheet as well. “You’re so beautiful…” Guiding her to sit astride his lap, he smoothed her hair.

“My eyes are brown. My hair is brown.” She didn’t see anything extraordinary about herself. She was a brown mouse.

“Your eyes are a deep dark chocolate brown a man can fall into and drown. Your hair is like rich mink, dark and deliciously soft.” He ran a finger down her neck, causing her to tremble. “Your skin is like perfect silk.”

“Ah, the heart of a poet.”

“Bree…” he scolded gently. “The moment I saw you, I knew you were going to be special to me.”

“You did?”

“Mmm-hmm.” He pulled her closer of a soft kiss. “Some things a heart just knows, doesn’t it?”

“Yes.”

“You knew it, too.”

“Not right off. I think when you told me to call you Josh…”

He trailed his lips down the side of her neck, finding that sweet spot she hadn’t even known existed, the one that turned her into marshmallow. “That’s it,” he whispered, continuing to lick and nibble at that spot. “Your lover’s Achilles’ heel.”

“I didn’t even know—“

“Then the guy was a moron.”

“Where’s yours?” she asked breathlessly as he grazed the spot with his teeth then soothed it with his tongue.

“That’s for you to discover.”

“You mean it? You’ll let me touch you?”

“Let you?” Josh pulled back in amazement and looked at her dazed face. “Let you? Baby girl, I want you to touch me. I want for you not to be able to keep your hands off me!”

A little of the romantic glow dissipated for Brianne. Josh sounded angry.

“Let me get this straight. He never told you how beautiful you are. He never found your sweet spot – and he didn’t want you to touch him? He never made love to you, Bree. He was looking for a convenient hole to stick it in.” His eyes narrowed at her little ‘oh’. “Let me guess, then he called you frigid, because you never came.”

Brianne bit her lips together and nodded. How did he know these things?

“Jesus, baby, I’m sorry. What a jerk!” He lightly touched her neck, causing a sweet shiver in her. “There is not a frigid bone in your body. You’re responsive as hell. He was blaming you for his failings.”

“But you won’t fail me.” Her eyes were wide and innocent.

“No, Bree, I won’t.”

“You’ll teach me how to touch you?”

“There won’t be a lot of teaching involved. Just do what feels good – and you’ll make me feel good, too.”

Brianne leaned forward to instigate a kiss that left them both gasping for oxygen.

“Frigid, my ass,” Josh muttered when she stripped back the sheet to satisfy her curiosity.

Brianne gaped at what seemed like a huge manhood, fully aroused. It was thick and stiff and hard looking. She frowned a little. “Will it fit?”

Josh grinned. “It’ll fit,” he assured her. As little as she was, it would be a wonderfully tight fit.

She drew a delicate finger from tip to base then back again, causing him to grit his teeth at the delightful torture. “It’s silky feeling, soft to the touch.” She hadn’t expected that. There was a little dribble of moisture escaping from the tip. She debated a moment, then leaned forward to lick at it.

“Oh, God, baby!” he groaned.

Brianne drew back. “Did I do something wrong?”

“No, angel, it felt fantastic.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“Do I need to take care of that, so I can take my time exploring the rest of you?”

That would be heaven. “Not right now.” He reached for the knot that held her robe closed and worked it loose. “My turn first, okay?”

She shrugged out of the robe and tossed it off the bed. “Okay.”

Josh laid her back on the pillows. “Sweet Brianne…” he whispered just before he kissed her, lingering until she relaxed. “I’m gonna touch and taste every inch of you.”

She smiled and ran her hands up his arms until they rested on his shoulders for a moment. She raised one hand to stroke the side of his face. “I’m glad I walked into that club tonight.”

He turned his face to place a kiss in her palm. “So, am I, baby.”

“I almost chickened out and didn’t go.”

“Yeah, I told Joey a hundred times I didn’t want to go. I finally gave up and went.”

“Hands of fate?”

“Kismet.” Josh was so comfortable with Brianne. It was as if they had always known each other, but had to wait to meet.

She drew his head down for a tantalizing kiss.

Josh took control and set about showing her what making love was really about. He trailed his fingers lightly down her neck and shoulders, then down her back. His kisses were long, drugging and hot. When his lips finally left hers, his mouth moved down her throat, then to that spot that made her melt.

“Oh, Josh!” she whimpered helplessly.

“Feel good, baby?”

“Oh, yes!”

“It’ll only get better,” he promised. His mouth continued down over her shoulders, down the middle of her chest until her reached her navel. Teasing the indentation with his tongue, he was rewarded with a little giggle from her. “That’s it, angel. Love should be fully enjoyed on all levels.” With nibbling kisses, he made his way back to her mouth. “I’ve barely begun.”

Cradling her against him, Josh traced the shape of her small, firm breasts. They were all ivory swells with rosy centers.

“I’m flat-chested,” she murmured.

“You’re more than enough for me, Bree.” He gently brushed one nipple with the pad of his thumb. It sprang to life and hardened. He repeated the procedure on the other. Bending his head, he flicked his tongue around one swollen bud.

“Josh!”

“You like that?”

“Oh, yes!”

“More?”

“Please.”

The guy was more than a moron, Josh thought darkly of the man who had disappointed Brianne as a lover. Any man who couldn’t enjoy a responsive woman like her didn’t deserve the title of ‘man’. He lowered his head to the eager little peak. He took it into his mouth, licking and suckling until Brianne was arching into him, begging for more. Then he treated its twin to the same delight. One hand moved down her body to the top of her thighs. “Open up for me, baby,” he urged softly.

“Josh?” Her soft voice was uncertain.

“It’s okay, baby girl. I’m not gonna rush you. You’ll like it, I promise.”

Hesitantly, Brianne parted her legs to allow his hand access between them.

Josh gently cupped and stroked her womanhood until she relaxed once more. Again he cursed the man who had made her so timid. Tenderly, he ran a fingertip along her slit until her petals parted.

“You okay?” he asked, nuzzling her neck.

“I’m wonderful.”

“That you are,” he agreed. “Scared?”

“Not anymore.”

“Good.”

He teased her with light sipping kisses, just before his mouth closed over hers to swallow her whimper when he inserted one finger into her wet heat. She held herself stiff until her body accepted his tender invasion, then she relaxed against him.

“Still okay?” he asked as he set his finger to a pumping motion.

Breathless, she nodded.

“You gonna let me taste you?”

Her eyes went wide.

“That a yes or a no?”

“Not this time, Josh. I don’t think I could bear it. I want to feel you inside me.”

‘Not this time.’ There would be other times. This was no one-night stand – he was pleased she seemed to understand it as well.

“Next time then.”

As he moved between her thighs, she opened herself farther to accommodate him. She stroked back his hair and smiled. “And next time, I’ll do the same for you.”

“I can hardly wait.”

Josh eased into her slowly, inch by inch, watching for some sign she wanted him to stop. None came. In fact, she arched up to urge him on. He groaned with pleasure. She was one tight, hot fit. “Oh, God, baby, you are fantastic!”

“So are you.”

“Ready to ride, Bree?”

At her nod, he pulled out nearly all the way, then sank back it.

“Ah!” she cried.

“Hurt?”

“No. Please, Josh, more.”

He set a tempo that had her writhing and squirming, trying to get him to go even deeper. For a little thing, she liked it hard and deep – and he was more than willing to oblige.

“Josh!”

He felt her go taut again. This time it wasn’t fear or uncertainty. “You’re feeling it, baby. Let it go! Fly for me, Bree!” he urged as he increased his thrusts.

Her nails dug into his back as her entire body went tight only to burst forth with white-hot pleasure. “Oh, Josh!”

Knowing she had found her release, Josh took his own with several more powerful lunges. “Bree baby,” he groaned as he exploded within her.

At his final shudder, he dropped his head to her shoulder, panting from the exertion. He felt her stroke his hair and back in a soothing gesture. “I’m okay, baby. Damn but you are fine!” Josh lifted his head to find her soft brown eyes dazed and sated.

“Thank you, Josh.”

“What’re you thanking me for?”

“For proving there’s a difference between sex and making love.”

“What we have is mutual, isn’t it, Bree? You pleasure me and I pleasure you.”

“I hope I made you feel at least half as good as you made me feel.”

He shifted to his side and reached to pull the covers over their cooling bodies. He chuckled. “If it gets any better, I’ll die from it.”

“The French call it ’the little death’.”

He stroked her face tenderly. “Baby, I didn’t use any protection. Quite frankly, I thought of it earlier, but once we started kissing, it flew out of my head. I’m not into causal sex, so I don’t carry any—“

“As long as you don’t have any horrible disease to pass on to me, we’re okay,” she assured him.

“I’m clean, but I’d better get some.” Even though, the thought of Brianne carrying his baby gave him an odd thrill, it wasn’t fair to her.

“Josh…” Brianne looked up, hesitated then continued. “I rather like the way you feel inside me.” She bit her bottom lip in indecision. “I’m willing to risk it, if you are,” she finished shyly.

Josh was speechless for a long moment. “Most of the risk is yours, angel. If you’re willing, then I sure as hell would rather not wear anything.”

His last girlfriend hadn’t trusted him not to play around when he was on the road, even though he’d never given her reason to believe he cheated – and he never had. She was so certain he didn’t remain faithful; she insisted he wear protection at all times. How was it possible that this sweet stranger trusted him more than someone who had known him for years? “If you change your mind, you let me know, okay, baby?”

She nodded sleepily.

“C’mere.” Josh held Brianne close. “You’d better get some sleep. It’s nearly five and you’ve got a busy day ahead of you.”

When the phone rang, it jolted Brianne out of a deep sleep. She was neatly pinned down by Josh’s arm across her waist and his leg across hers, so she could barely reach the receiver.

“Hello?”

“Brianne, where are you? It’s nearly eleven!” came her Aunt Marian’s concerned voice.

Brianne groaned. “I went out last night. Remember the dare from Colleen and Denise.”

“To go to one of those dance clubs?”

“Well, I went.”

“But you didn’t stay long,” came a male whisper next to Brianne’s ear.

She shot Josh a quelling glare. “I met someone and we talked for hours. I didn’t get to bed until three or so.”

”And went to sleep even later.” Josh whispered against her neck.

“Well, the car is supposed to be here at one-thirty.”

“I’ll be there, Aunt Marian. I’ll grab a shower and something to eat. Tell Janie not to worry. I wouldn’t let her down for all the world.”

“We know that, dear. So we can expect you around twelve-thirty?”

“Okay. Bye.”

Brianne replaced the receiver and flopped back to her pillow. Then she realized her thighs ached form the early morning exercise she and Josh had enjoyed. She groaned again.

“Morning, baby girl,” he purred, trailing soft nibbling kisses along her neck and jaw.

“My only consolation will be you got as little sleep as I did,” she grumbled.

“I take it you aren’t a morning person.”

“I am very much a morning person – when I get sleep the night before.”

He grinned down at her. “I’m sorry, angel. Tonight, we’ll go to bed much earlier.”

“Tonight?”

“Well, the way you talked—” It dawned on him the romantic haze was gone, that Brianne had planned on a one-nighter. “Dammit, Brianne—“

“I gotta get a shower.” She disengaged herself from his limbs and stood up. Her legs protested against the sudden movement, but this time she ignored them. Scooping up her robe from the floor, she headed for the bathroom.

Once in the shower, Brianne leaned weakly against the wall, her eyes closed. What had she done? There was no future with Josh. There couldn’t be. They lived in entirely different worlds! Last night was just a precious interlude out of time. They had reached out and healed each other. Nothing permanent—

Josh shoved the shower curtain open and stepped in, yanking it closed behind him. “I am not letting you do this. Not to me. Not to you,” he growled.

Opening her eyes, she dropped them to his obvious arousal. The little devil sitting on her left shoulder could not be hushed by the angel on the right. “You always like that in the morning?” she asked.

“Not always.” He was taken aback by her curiosity. Her question disarmed his anger. “A lot. Especially when I wake up next to a warm, loving woman. He thinks he’s gonna get some.”

Just remembering how wonderful it had been mere hours ago had Brianne ready. “Come here and he can have some,” she told him huskily.

“Bree?” Josh stepped closer as her hands went to his shoulders. “Baby girl, you’ll be sore.”

“I already am. Next argument.”

“You’ll be late?” he offered half-heartedly. He wanted nothing more than to make love to Brianne again.

“I’ll risk it. Baby, make us feel good.” She licked at his throat, then sucked at the pulse point above his lion medallion.

“Damn!” he hissed.

“I found it!” she crowed. “You’re sweet spot!”

“And you weren’t even trying,” he breathed as she attacked the place with nibbling kisses. “God, baby, stop already,” he pleaded.

“Make love to me,” she commanded softly.

“Nothing could stop me.” His hand went between her thighs to find her wet and swollen, ready for him. “You’re so hot…”

“Please, Josh, now!”

Lifting her against the wall, he guided her legs around him. With one thrust, he was deep inside her tight walls. He groaned at the wet, welcoming heat of her. “Baby, nothing has ever felt as good as when I’m in you.”

Brianne lowered her head to kiss him hotly, luring his tongue into her mouth to suck hungrily at it.

Josh pumped into her harder. Her little whimpers of pleasure only drove him on. If anyone could make him lose his head, it was Brianne. With no experience to speak of, she was the one who could make him insane. “C’mon, baby, feel it. Come with me” he urged, feeling himself ready to let go.

Almost as if spurred on by his words, Brianne tightened around him as her entire body grew taut until pleasure washed over her in continuous, crashing waves. “Oh, Josh!…”

“Bree baby!’ he cried out in completion, then sagged against her. “Oh, damn!”

He seemed so vulnerable, Brianne put her arms around him, holding his head against her shoulder.

“I could stay like this forever,” he murmured against her silky skin.

“We’d run out of hot water.”

He chuckled, raising his head. “Are you telling me you’re a practical girl?”

“I thought I was. Last night and this morning kinda blows that theory.”

He kissed her softly. “Us finding each other last night lands in the miracle category.”

“Or the brainless.” Brianne unwrapped her legs, so her feet met the shower floor. “I’ve got to get going.”

Instead of hindering her, Josh helped by grabbing the shampoo. He lathered her hair, massaging her scalp.’’

“You can be my shampoo boy any day.” she purred at his gentle but firm touch.

“Okay.”

Once her hair was rinsed clean, he reached for her body wash.

“Uh--no way, buddy.” She took the bottle from him. “I’m pretty sure that could lead to things that would make me even later.”

Josh grinned down at her. “I’d better be going anyway. If I show up wearing what I wore last night, Chris and Joey’ll know what happened.”

“You ashamed of that?”

He shook his head. “No, but I don’t want any one speculating on you. What’s between us is our business, no one else’s.”

He was trying to protect her again, she realized.

Josh brushed a soft kiss on her lips. “I’ll see you later, angel.” Then he was gone.
