Intro: Like A Ton Of Bricks
Kitty Winston noticed the rather attractive man on the fringes of their outdoor shoot. She had never noticed him before, but he had to know someone or he wouldn’t be mingling with the crew. There was some thing in his face, a sweetness, almost innocence. Here in LA? That was practically unheard of!
“What are you staring at?” George, her older male costar, asked.
“Him.” She nodded towards the man. “Introduce us.”
George glanced at the young man -- well, a boy next to him. He also knew Kitty well enough to realize she wasn’t easily impressed by looks. She must have read some thing more in his face. He grinned down at her. “I don’t know who it is, so I can’t introduce you.”
“This is your set.”
“I don’t own the people on it,” he chuckled. “I’m not omnipotent.”
“You aren’t?” She fluttered her eyelashes at him teasingly. “I am so disappointed.”
Josh watched the woman with the older guy. They seemed to have some intimate rapport. He could tell by the way they leaned in to speak to one another.
God, she was such a stunning creature! He’d never seen eyes that color, true violet. They were large in her porcelain face. Her raven-colored hair was cut shoulder-length. The combination of hair, eyes and complexion made her look delicate and almost other-worldly. Joey had brought him here to meet Kit Winston, but he’d much rather meet this woman.
“You know what you are?” Kitty quipped at George.
George laughed. “I have a feeling you’re gonna tell me.”
“You’re an old poop!” Kitty stuck out her tongue out at him and began to run before he could seize her.
“Just you wait, brat!” George growled, teasingly making a grab at her.
Giggling and with her eyes on the man closing in on her, Kitty ran into something that gave, then tumbled to the ground beneath her.
The air was knocked from Josh’s lungs, not only from the impact of hitting the ground and the female landing atop of him but from her beauty. She was even more lovely at close range!
My God! He’s gorgeous close-up! Kitty thought as she looked down into surprised blue eyes.
She gave him a dazzling smile. “Hi!”
Josh was totally dazed. “Uh -- hi.”
“I’m Kitty.”
“I’m Josh.”
“Nice to meet you, Josh.” Kitty levered herself up, to straddle his legs in preparation to rise. The intimate pressure of their lower bodies caused a stirring in his jeans that was not lost on Kitty. When he realized she was aware of his condition, he blushed. She gave him a distinctively knowing smile. “I think you’re pleased to meet me, too,” she stated huskily.
Josh felt his face grow even hotter. There were some things a man couldn’t hide -- especially when she was sitting on his crotch! “Sorry.”
“Don’t be.”
“Get off the boy,” George grumbled as he took Kitty’s shoulders and lifted her to her feet. “Now, you’ve been introduced.”
“No thanks to you.”
The man reached down to assist Josh from the ground. “Ask her out. She’ll say yes.”
“Yessir,” Josh murmured.
“Don’t be polite to him,” Kitty admonished. “He might like it. Then he’ll expect me to be polite.”
George swatted her behind playfully. “Brat. The day you’re polite to me, I’ll have a heart attack.”
“But I love you, George,” Kitty cooed.
“Brat,” he muttered as he walked away.
“Are you two always like that?” Josh asked.
“Sure. It keeps things light. Unless the cameras are rolling, then we’re all business.”
“So...Kitty, would you go out with me?”
She gave him another one of those smiles that made his knees weak. “I’d love to.”
Was it too soon to kiss her? God, she’d taste sweet and intoxicating. “Kitty, I---”
“Hey, I see you two already met!” Joey came up and slapped Josh on the back.
Kitty frowned. “This is your friend JC?”
“Yeah.”
“Family and close friends call me Josh,” he offered when Kitty shot him an accusatory glare.
“And just what does your girlfriend call you?” Venom fairly dripped from her words. From Joey, she knew JC had been seeing someone for years. If he wanted to go out with her, that meant he was willing to cheat on whoever she was. She had expected better from the Josh she had sensed he was. Her radar must be off for today.
Joey didn’t miss Kitty’s distaste or Josh’s sudden dejection. What he did miss was what had obviously gone on before he arrived.
“Kitty, I---” Josh started to explain but was cut off.
“Keep it to yourself. No, I have no intention of going anywhere with you. I don’t poach.” With that, she put her back to him and walked away.
“What did I miss?” Joey asked, bewildered. Kitty was usually a very welcoming person and Josh was a likable guy.
Josh hadn’t know love could appear and blossom in five minutes and die in a breath’s time. “I saw her. She knocked me down. I asked her out and she said yes. Now, it’s no.”
“She’s got this moral code a mile long. It’d didn’t even occur to me before that she’d consider you off-limits.”
“Just great,” Josh mumbled. “You bring me here to meet her. I fall, literally, like a ton of bricks for her -- and she hates me.”
Joey had already secured a part in the movie Kitty and George were making, so he’d be on the set. Maybe he could talk to Kitty about giving Josh a chance.
“There’s this six line part of Tyler Matson. It hasn’t been cast. You could test for it.”
“I’m no actor.”
“You’ve acted before. It’s hardly any screen time -- and all of it with Kitty. Besides, it’ll give you an excuse to hang around.”
“She hates me. Why hang around?”
“Kitty, is tough, but she isn’t unfair.” Joey shook his head. “And if you give up, what does that tell her?”
